Era of Terrorism in Syria May End in 2018 Due to Moscow Efforts– Assyrian Democratic Party MOSCOW, September 30 (Sputnik) – The era of terrorism in Syria may come to an end next year due to efforts of the Russian and Syrian armies, Assyrian Democratic Party President Ninos Isho told Sputnik Saturday on the occasion of the second anniversary of the anti-terror operation carried out by the Russian Armed Forces in Syria. “Taking into account the pace of the anti-terror operation carried out by Russian army, as well as Syrian army and its allies, we will witness the end of the era of terrorism in Syria next year,” Isho said. He pointed out that the Russian operation was launched at the request of the Syrian government and, therefore, was legal. “Through this operation Russia managed to prevent the dissolution of the Syrian state, so this operation is very important. Russia managed to fight against terrorism and is at the last stage of its elimination now … If there was no Russian operation, there would be no Astana and Geneva talks in their present form, from this perspective the operation was successful and efficient,” the politician said. Isho added that the Russian military presence in Syria was a fact, which the United States and its allies had to accept. Russia launched its military operation in Syria on September 30, 2015, at the request of the Syrian government, which has been fighting against various opposition groups as well as terrorist organizations since 2011. Since the start of the Russian operation, the Syrian army managed to liberate the country’s biggest city of Aleppo and the ancient city of Palmyra, as well as lifted the siege of the city of Deir ezZor. Moscow is also actively involved in the international efforts aimed at reaching national reconciliation in Syria, being a guarantor of the Syrian ceasefire and Astana talks mediator.
